Barclays Bank Tanzania (BBT) first opened its doors in 1925 and continued to operate in the country until 1967, when it was nationalised to become the National Bank of Commerce (NBC). With the opening of the economy in the 1990s, Barclays PLC made a decision to re-enter the Tanzania market. BBT now holds 32 branches and 53 ATMs strategically located countrywide, with 700 colleagues looking after 110,000 customers.
Today our products and services focus on the corporate market and include banking and cash management services, treasury products, structured finance and trade finance. Retail, small business customers and private clients complete the mix. Plus in 2005 Barclays Tanzania launched a corporate bond, making it only the fifth company to issue such bonds.
Charity begins at work so that’s why we encourage all our colleagues to share their skills and time helping the community. We also take a specific interest in projects close to us, which is why we’re partnered with the Comprehensive Community Based Rehabilitation in Tanzania, Plan and Care International and World Wildlife fund. And finally like all our colleagues in Africa, we have a strong partnership with the Junior Achievement (JA) programme, which helps young people create their own business and earn real money.
We’re champions of innovation and understand that every member of our team contributes to our vision. This means we’re always ready to extend a warm welcome to anyone who shares our values and has the expertise to deliver the service that defines our bank. Whether you’re at the start of your career or have already made a name for yourself, we have opportunities that can offer the support your talent deserves.
